ROYAL AIR MAROC INTRODUCES ITS FIRST BOEING 747-400

SEATTLE, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Royal Air Maroc, Morocco's flag carrier, announced at a ceremony in Casablanca Saturday that it had acquired its first Boeing 747-400, according to the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group. The purchase marks the initial step in the airline's program to renew its long-range fleet.
Royal Air Maroc President Mohamed Mekouar said the carrier chose the 747-400 because "modernization is necessary in order to be more competitive in terms of cost, and to provide better quality service." The new wide-body aircraft, originally delivered to Air France, is expected to enter service with Royal Air Maroc in November, powered by General Electric engines. It will be operated on the airline's long- range routes to North America and the Middle East.
As configured for Royal Air Maroc, the 747-400 accommodates 439 passengers in a three-class arrangement: 16 in first class, 38 in business class and 385 in economy.
With the introduction of the 747-400 -- the most advanced version of the big superjet available -- Royal Air Maroc continues a tradition of leadership by being the first airline to operate the -400 in North Africa and the Middle East.
Boeing recently made aviation history when it rolled out the 1,000th 747 jetliner; only four other commercial types -- three being Boeing models -- have sold more than 1,000 units.
