2 arrested in Mandaluyong drug bust

Police arrested an alleged drug peddler and his customer who was caught in the act of using illegal drugs in a buy-bust operation in Mandaluyong City Thursday morning.

Suspects were identified as Redentor Abeng, 52, of Barangay Highway Hills, Mandaluyong and Jan Christian Saur, 35, of Barangay Don Bosco, Paranaque City.

Investigation showed that at around 4:30 a.m., members of the Station Drug Enforcement Unit conducted a buy-bust sting against Abeng at his house in Barangay Highway Hills.

Abeng was arrested after a police poseur buyer was able to purchase P200 worth of shabu from him, police said.

Police also collared Saur who was caught in the act of sniffing shabu inside the house of Abeng, police added.

Recovered from the duo were three sachets of suspected shabu, an improvised water pipe and an unsealed plastic sachet both with traces of suspected shabu, an aluminum foil strip, two lighters, and the buy-bust money.

They are now detained and will be charged for violating RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Jhon Aldrin Casinas)

Elderly man found dead in Manila

An old man was found dead inside his room in Sampaloc, Manila Wednesday morning.

Police identified the fatality as Edilberto Urita, 85, American citizen, and resident of No. 827 Blumentritt Street of the said district.

Initial report revealed that the victim was last seen eating dinner at around 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 29.

However, he was already lifeless when his nephew Neleo Paiste went to his room to call him for breakfast the following day.

The incident was then reported to the police for investigation.

Authorities did not trace any sign of external injuries on the victim's body. But it was learned that he had a heart bypass surgery in 2004.

Urita's body was brought to Archangel Funeral Homes.

Police arrest 6 suspected drug pushers

Six alleged newly identified drug pushers were arrested by the police during a buy-bust operation conducted in Tondo, Manila on Tuesday, a belated report said.

Police identified the suspects as Erwin Garcia, 2; Jaymark Malawit 21 ; Christian Blue Aguinaldo, 20; Erwin Angelo, 23; Jessie Dela, 34; Tom Cruz, 21--all residents of Tondo, Manila.

Investigation showed that Jose Abad Police Station operatives conducted a buy bust operation against the suspects at around 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 29 in a rail road track outside a shanty house along New Antipolo Street Tondo, Manila.

Recovered from the suspects were twelve pieces of suspected shabu with an estimated value of P2,400, P200 buy-bust money, a brown coin purse and one folding knife which is approximately seven inches long.

Appropriate charges will be filed against them for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Erma Edera)
