ROTELCOM ACQUIRES TEL PLUS ASSETS IN UPSTATE NEW YORK
ROCHESTER, N.Y., Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Rotelcom Network Systems has signed a purchase agreement to acquire the entire Upstate New York customer and private branch exchange (PBX) equipment base of Tel Plus Communications, a Siemens company.
Rotelcom will acquire the inventories, outstanding proposals, and maintenance contracts covering the Siemens SATURN and HCM 200 business communication systems and peripherals marketed by Tel Plus.
The sale will inlcude approximately 225 Tel Plus PBX customers in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany, according to J.T. Carr, Rotelcom president. It will expand Rotelcom's PBX base by nearly 50 percent. PBXs are large business telephone systems, serving customers with more than 50 lines.
According to Carr, this purchase is a natural extension of the company's renewed focus on PBX customers. Last September, Rotelcom sold its "key systems" (small business phone systems) customer base to WilTel Communications.
"Today, businesses need to make the most of all their current resources, including their phone system," Carr said. "Rotelcom's strength is in helping customers improve their efficiency and customer service by turning their phone system into an automated 'Call Center.' We look forward to assisting Tel Plus customers in this way."
According to Peter Pribilla, group president of Siemens worldwide Private Communication Systems Group, the agreement with Rotelcom is a further step in streamlining his company's U.S. distribution strategy, begun earlier this month with the transferring of six Tel Plus offices to ROLM Business Partners Norstan, Inc., and KLF, Inc.
"There were clear synergies, both in terms of geography and product focus, between Rotelcom and Tel Plus," Pribilla said. "We believe this move allows us to provide continuous support of the highest quality to our existing customers, while strengthening our distribution for the HCM 200."
Rotelcom expects the sale to be closed in December 1991.
