ROSS SYSTEMS ENDORSES NEW DIGITAL EQUIPMENT THREE-TIERED PRICING; ROSS TO FOLLOW DIGITAL'S LEAD IN PRICING ALIGNMENT GEARED TO USERS' NEEDS
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Ross Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: ROSS) today announced it is following Digital Equipment Corporation's (NYSE: DEC) lead in realigning software pricing to conform to usage patterns.
On Oct. 30, Digital Equipment introduced a three-tiered pricing structure for software that would provide for personal licenses and concurrent usage licenses in addition to the traditional unlimited system use license. Ross is notifying customers of the new pricing structure today.
"This new pricing structure will be beneficial to many of our users. By aligning licensing costs with usage rather than system size, we can give greater value to companies or groups where the work organization is dynamic or where the number of users of a specific application is small," said Dennis V. Vohs, Ross Systems chairman and chief executive officer. "As a Digital marketing partner we whole-heartedly endorse and adhere to this new pricing policy," said Vohs.
Personal Use licenses are designed to allow access to the application to a single user. Concurrent Use licenses allow up to a specific number of users to access the application at the same time on a first-come, first-served basis. Traditional Unlimited System Use licenses allow unlimited use of the application on a specific system and are priced based on system capability.
Ross Systems, Inc., was among the first companies to offer commercial accounting software for the Digital VAX computer, and has been a member of Digital's Cooperative Marketing Program (CMP) since 1984. Today, Ross Systems, Inc. develops and markets a broad range of business solutions in three strategic environments in the DEC marketplace: VMS, UNIX and client/server. Ross products encompass financial, human resources, and distribution systems as well as manufacturing and public sector applications complemented by a fourth generation application development language. The company has been following a corporate development strategy of broadening the product line and expanding through both internal growth and acquisitions.
Ross Systems serves its customers through a network of over 31 offices worldwide. Corporate headquarters are located at 555 Twin Dolphin Drive, Redwood City, CA 94065; telephone 415-593-2500.
