ROSS 'DRESS FOR LESS' OPENS THREE NEW STORES IN LOS ANGELES

Newark, Calif., March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Ross 'Dress For Less' will grand open new stores on Sunday, March 7, in San Pedro, Montclair and Azusa. These are three of 11 new stores opening throughout the country this spring, as Ross continues its nationwide expansion.
The 27,342-square-foot San Pedro store is located in the former Newberry's space at Park Plaza. This recently renovated center, located on the northeast corner of Crestwood Street and Western Avenue, includes such nationally known retailers as Von's, Clothestime, Kids Mart and Payless Shoes.
The new location in Montclair replaces the former Ross in Ontario. The new 24,000-square-foot store is located in Montclair East, a new strip center located at the intersection of Central Avenue and Moreno Street. The center provides one-stop shopping for customers with such famous retailers as Stroud's Linens, Sportsmart and Office Depot. In addition, Nordstroms, May Co., Broadway, Sears and J.C. Penney are just across the street at Montclair Plaza.
The former Ross in Glendora has moved to its new location in Azusa, a 25,000-square-foot store in Foothill Shopping Center. The new Ross occupies the former J.C. Penney building in this 200,000-square-foot community center at the southwest corner of Citrus and Alosta Avenues. Cotenants include such nationally-known names as Alpha Beta, Sav-On and Clothestime, in addition to Edwards Cinemas.
Ross is committed to increasing market share in existing markets, as demonstrated by its continued growth in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. With these new Los Angeles stores, Ross will strengthen its dominant position in this market, where it will now operate a total of 44 stores. In addition, Ross will now have 108 stores throughout California.
In commenting on these important new locations, Norman A. Ferber, President and chief executive officer, stated, "Our strategy of offering competitive values on recognizable quality name brand merchandise worked well during 1992, giving us the confidence to launch our 1993 expansion program, which includes these exciting new Los Angeles locations. We believe our emphasis on brands and savings will continue to attract value-conscious customers throughout the country, and support our plans for growth during the coming years."
Eight other new Ross 'Dress For Less' stores are opening this spring in San Diego, the San Francisco Bay Area, Portland, Phoenix, Philadelphia and McAllen, Texas. With these new openings, Ross will operate 231 stores in 18 states coast-to-coast.
Ross Stores Inc. (NASDAQ: ROST) generated sales of $1.046 billion in its 1992 fiscal year. The off-price retailer offers first quality, in-season, branded apparel and footwear for the entire family at 20 to 60 percent less than department and specialty store prices, as well as complete departments for accessories and fragrances at similar savings.
