RONALD LONG NAMED PRESIDENT AND CEO OF INDEPENDENT BANK EAST MICHIGAN

 IONIA, Mich., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Charles C. Van Loan, president and chief executive officer of Independent Bank Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: IBCP), today announced that the board of directors of Independent Bank East Michigan has named Ronald L. Long president and chief executive officer and a director of the bank. Independent Bank East Michigan, formerly American Home Bank, was acquired by Independent Bank Corporation Oct. 8, 1993.
 Long has been vice president and controller of Independent Bank Corporation, the Ionia-based holding company, since 1990. Before he joined the corporation, Long was an audit manager at Ernst & Young, and earlier, a member of the audit staff of Crowe, Chizek & Company. He entered public accounting after receiving his bachelor's degree in accounting from Michigan State University in 1982.
 "I am confident that we've selected the right person to develop our newest bank to its fullest potential. Ron takes with him over eight years of experience in public accounting and has also worked diligently as a member of our corporate loan committee. In the time he has worked for the corporation he has shown remarkable analytical and organizational skills as controller. Additionally, our corporate services and operations departments are fully prepared to give their support to the new bank as they do now for our existing banks," said Van Loan.
 In addition to Independent Bank East Michigan, Independent Bank Corporation has three subsidiaries: Independent Bank, Ionia; Independent Bank West Michigan, Rockford; and Independent Bank South Michigan, Leslie. The subsidiaries operate 29 banking offices.
 The corporation has previously announced plans to acquire Pioneer Bank, North Branch and Kingston State Bank, Kingston. The purchase of Pioneer Bank should close later this month. The acquisition of Kingston is subject to the execution of a definitive agreement and the approval of bank regulators as well as the shareholders of KSB. The transaction is expected to close during the first quarter of 1994.
 Independent Bank Corporation common stock trades on the NASDAQ Stock Market under the symbol IBCP.
