RONALD C. OGNAR JOINS STRONG FUNDS

MILWAUKEE, April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Ronald C. Ognar will join the Strong Funds as portfolio manager of the Strong Total Return Fund ($560 million, 4 stars by Morningstar) and institutional portfolios, it was announced today. Most recently with RCM Capital Management in San Francisco, Mr. Ognar is also the former manager of the Kemper Growth Fund. During his tenure at Kemper from 1989 to mid-1991, the fund was ranked in the top 10 percent of growth funds by Lipper (A).
Mr. Ognar is the latest in a series of additions that have broadened and diversified the Strong investment team. Said Richard S. Strong, chairman and chief investment officer, "In 1990 we indicated our intention to build the best team possible. Since then, we have attracted leading portfolio managers with expertise in corporate bonds, municipal bonds, and equities. Ron's joining us is the latest step in reaching our objective."
Until now, Mr. Strong has managed the Strong Total Return Fund. In naming his successor, he said, "Ron is an accomplished growth and income investor who shares our investment philosophy and vision for the Strong Total Return Fund."
According to Mr. Ognar, "I'm delighted to be a part of the Strong investment team. Like Dick Strong, I'm a dedicated growth-stock investor. My approach is to build a portfolio that combines well- managed companies that are experiencing accelerating growth with solid, dividend-paying stocks."
Strong has experienced significant growth in assets under management since 1990. The firm now manages $7 billion in 16 mutual funds and institutional accounts. Mr. Ognar's addition brings the Strong investment team to 20. Said Mr. Strong, "As chief investment officer, increasingly, I will be spending time setting objectives and coordinating the efforts of all of our portfolio managers." Mr. Strong will continue as portfolio manager of the Strong Discovery Fund.
 (A) -- The Kemper Growth Fund ranked No. 17 out of 221 growth funds for the period Dec. 31, 1988, to June 30, 1991, according to Lipper Analytical Services.
