ROLLS-ROYCE DELIVERS FIRST RARE $262,000 BENTLEY TO AMERICAN OWNER
NEW YORK, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The first production model of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars' new $261,800 Bentley Continental R was presented to its American owner here today.
Raymond Lutgert, a Naples, Fla., sculptor and businessman, became the world's first owner of a production Continental R when he accepted the keys from Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Inc. president and chief executive officer, Howard Mosher, at Carriage House in New York City.
The 145 mph, turbo-charged coupe is the first Bentley in 40 years that has not shared a body style with its Rolls-Royce counterpart.
Lutgert made an immediate decision to order the high performance Bentley on the day Rolls-Royce revealed plans for the Continental R to its dealers at a meeting in Florida. His speed off the mark placed him first in line when production began. He owns 13 other Rolls-Royce motor cars built between 1909 and 1933, a collection that has been called the finest in the country.
Only 94 Continental R motor cars will be available in North America this year and all have been sold in advance.
Describing the Continental R as "the most significant Bentley to be built since since World War II," Mosher said that it was a motor car for the connoisseur, and a logical extension of the company's plan to broaden its market beyond the traditional Rolls-Royce buyer.
