ROLL UP FOR DICKENSIAN CHRISTMAS WITH COMEDY TWIST; Mrs Dickens' Family Christmas.

Friday, BBC2, 9pm

We enjoy watching Sue Perkins, here at Saturday Magazine towers.

She's enjoyably deadpan, but does that immensely irritating 'looking over the top of her glasses' thing.

Her work with Giles Coren in the BBC2 series Supersizers has been great fun too. And it's from this series that this takes its lead.

As part of the Beeb's Dickens' celebration, Sue takes on the 'character' of Charles' wife Catherine and gets into the very gristle of the Dickens' family Christmas.

Seems it wasn't a real life Christmas Carol after all.

But what Sue does discover, is that his wife did inform the lives of some of his female characters and his attitude to women in his writing - specifically through his wife's transformation from a young virgin to middleaged frump.

She, on the other hand, loved him unconditionally and supported his career.

MUST SEE TV!
