ROHR INC. APPOINTS ROBERT H. RAU PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

CHULA VISTA, Calif., April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Rohr's (NYSE: RHR) board of directors today elected Robert H. Rau as president and chief executive officer. Rau was also appointed a member of the board of directors.
Rau, 56, was an executive vice president of Parker Hannifin Corp., and for the past ten years has served as president of the Parker Bertea Aerospace segment of Parker Hannifin. Parker Hannifin reported sales of $662 million and operating income of $67 million for its aerospace segment for the fiscal year ended June 30, 1992. Parker Bertea designs and produces a broad line of hydraulic, fuel and pneumatic systems and components for commercial, military and general aviation aircraft.
Rau joined Parker in 1969 and has held positions in finance, program management and general management. He held the positions of vice president of finance and administration and vice president of operations before being named president of the Aerospace Group. Rau currently serves as chairman of the General Aviation Manufacturers Association.
Rau said: "I have long respected the strong position Rohr has built in the aerospace industry. I look forward to working with the fine team at Rohr as we build on the past and successfully face the many challenges presented by an industry that is changing dramatically. Despite these challenges, I believe that Rohr is well- positioned to benefit from the favorable long-term prospects in the commercial aircraft business."
The board also announced that James J. Kerley, 70, a member of Rohr's board of directors who has been serving as interim chairman and chief executive officer since the retirement of Robert H. Goldsmith in January 1993, will continue as chairman of the board of directors. Kerley will also serve as chief financial officer until an executive search for that position is completed. Following the chief financial officer appointment, Kerley will continue as a non- employee chairman of the company until his retirement from the board of directors in December 1994.
Kerley has a long and distinguished career. He retired from Emerson Electric Co. in 1985 where he served as vice chairman and chief financial
officer. Kerley also held key financial executive positions with TWA and the Monsanto Co.
Kerley said: "Bob Rau's experience in and knowledge of the aerospace industry, along with his familiarity with our customer base, make him well-qualified to be president and CEO of Rohr. He has a sound understanding of the challenges facing Rohr during this period of change in the aerospace industry, and he has demonstrated the ability to provide strong leadership in tough times."
Rohr designs, manufactures, integrates and supports engine nacelle systems and components for commercial, military and business aircraft. Eighty-eight percent of the company's firm backlog of $1.7 billion is for commercial and business aircraft equipment. Rohr, headquartered in Chula Vista, has facilities in the United States and Europe. The company reported revenues of $1.3 billion for the fiscal year ended July 31, 1992.
