ROHR ANNOUNCES CLOSING OF ITS AUBURN, WASHINGTON FACILITY
CHULA VISTA, Calif., May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Rohr (NYSE: RHR) announced today that it will be closing its Auburn, Wash. manufacturing facility. The transfer of existing manufacturing programs to other Rohr facilities will begin within the next three to four months and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
The Rohr-Auburn facility first started operation in 1956, and currently occupies 24 acres of land with 112,000 square feet of building space and 170 full-time employees. The Auburn facility was originally dedicated as an engine build-up (the assembly of the nacelle system on the engine) facility to support Boeing's aircraft operations in Renton and Everett, Wash. While Rohr still manufactures nacelle components for the 737, 747, 757, and 767 programs, Boeing has elected in recent years to perform the engine build-up of these components on their aircraft using Boeing facilities. Rohr will use its existing facilities in California, Arkansas and Alabama to support its current and future nacelle system and component deliveries to Boeing.
Rohr has in recent years placed other Boeing and non-Boeing aerospace work at the Auburn plant to support its continuing operation but now sees a need to downsize its manufacturing capacity to adjust to the reductions currently being experienced in the military and commercial aircraft marketplace. Rohr currently has facilities totaling 6.2 million square feet and approximately 9,900 employees.
"Rohr would like to thank its current and past employees, as well as the community of Auburn for their dedication and performance over these many years," said Ernie Bailey, General Manager of Rohr's Auburn facility.
Rohr will set up an employee transition center to assist in the reassignment of workers to other facilities where possible and to provide assistance and counseling for those employees seeking employment outside of the company.
Rohr designs, integrates, manufactures and supports engine nacelle systems and components for commercial, military and business aircraft. Rohr, headquartered in Chula Vista, has facilities in the United States and Europe.
