 ROHM AND HAAS UNVEILS SAFETY TRUCK
 PHILADELPHIA, Pa., Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Rohm and Haas Company

(NYSE: ROH) today became the first commercial operator of a new chemical tank truck, designed jointly with three other major U.S. companies, in ceremonies held at the company's headquarters on Independence Mall.
 Company chairman, J. Lawrence Wilson, joined area Congressmen Robert A. Borski, Thomas M. Foglietta, and Peter H. Kostmayer in reviewing the extensive safety features of the vehicle, known as the Advanced Concept Truck or ACT.
 "Our interest in safety includes not only our manufacturing sites but the safe delivery of our products to the customer," said Wilson. "We are proud to be the first company in the nation to put the Advanced Concept Truck into commercial service delivering products from our Bristol Plant."
 Rohm and Haas Company's involvement with Freightliner Corporation, Heil Company, and Shell Oil Company began with company-sponsored research at the University of Michigan which showed that nearly 80 percent of tanker spills are caused by rollover accidents. Computer models on the Advanced Concept Truck show that rollover accidents are 33 percent less likely due to the vehicle's lower center of gravity and other features, including:
 -- a Satellite Vehicle Positioning System which tracks the truck nationwide, 24-hours a day;
 -- anti-lock brakes and anti-slip traction control;
 -- On-Board Diagnostics which monitor the vehicle's road speed and automatic emergency engine shutdown systems;
 -- a 32 percent improvement in forward ground level visibility, and
 -- impact absorbing "crush" areas and increased wall thickness in the tank section for extra protection against spills.
 The Rohm and Haas "ACT" consists of a Freightliner tractor leased through Ryder Inc. (NYSE: R), and a tank section produced by Heil Company and owned by Rohm and Haas Company. It will be put into immediate service, delivering company products produced at its Bristol, Pa., plant to Canada.
