ROHM AND HAAS COMPANY ELECTS NINE VICE PRESIDENTS

 PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Rohm and Haas Company's (NYSE: ROH) board of directors today elected nine new vice presidents.
 "I am pleased that the board has recognized the significant contributions these people have made to Rohm and Haas, as well as the importance of their positions," said J. Lawrence Wilson, chairman and CEO.
 Those named vice presidents, effective immediately, include:
 -- Paul J. Baduini,
 Vice President and Business Unit Director, Ion Exchange Resins
 Paul Baduini, 46, has been with Rohm and Haas since 1972. He heads the worldwide ion exchange resin business, which makes products used in water treatment, biotechnology, electronics, pharmaceuticals and food processing.
 -- Albert H. Caesar
 Vice President of Rohm and Haas and President, AtoHaas North America, Inc.
 Al Caesar, 56, has worked for Rohm and Haas since 1962. In 1992, Caesar helped form the AtoHaas joint venture between Elf Atochem and Rohm and Haas. AtoHaas makes and sells acrylic sheet, polycarbonate sheet and pelletized plastic resins used by customers in the automotive, construction, transportation, sign, lighting and appliance markets.
 -- Nance K. Dicciani
 Vice President and Business Unit Director for Petroleum Chemicals
 Nance Dicciani, 46, joined the company in 1991. Prior to coming to Rohm and Haas, Dr. Dicciani spent 14 years with Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. She manages the company's Petroleum Chemicals business, which makes products used around the world in motor oils, fuels, lubricants, gear oils, transmission and hydraulic fluids, and in a wide variety of specialty applications.
 -- Robert M. Downing
 Vice President and Operations Director, North American Region
 Bob Downing, 51, joined Rohm and Haas in 1965. Downing has oversight responsibilities for manufacturing operations throughout the United States and Canada.
 -- David T. Espenshade
 Vice President and Director of Materials Management
 Dave Espenshade, 55, began his career with Rohm and Haas in 1965. Espenshade is responsible for purchasing, transportation services and materials management systems for the company.
 -- Howard C. Levy
 Vice President and Business Unit Director for Biocides
 Howard Levy, 50, joined Rohm and Haas in 1973. Levy oversees the Biocides business, which makes products used to preserve paints, personal-care products, jet fuels, dishwashing detergents, wood preservatives, paper making materials and in industrial water treatment in all parts of the globe.
 -- Philip G. Lewis
 Vice President and Director of Safety, Health and Environmental Affairs and Product Integrity
 Phil Lewis, 42, joined Rohm and Haas Company in 1983. In his position, Dr. Lewis is responsible for setting and implementing standards to ensure that company products are safe to make and use by employees, customers and consumers.
 -- William H. Staas
 Vice President and Business Unit Director for Monomers
 Bill Staas, 49, joined Rohm and Haas's Research Division in 1973. Dr. Staas assumed his current position as business unit director for Monomers in 1990. The monomers business makes chemicals that support more than two-thirds of the company's total product portfolio.
 -- James C. Tabb
 Vice President and Director, Corporate Human Resources
 Jim Tabb, 52, joined the company in 1967. The Human Resources function is responsible for designing and implementing programs that provide training, counseling, compensation and benefits to more than 13,500 employees around the world.
 There are no job or organizational changes associated with the election of the new vice presidents.
 Rohm and Haas is a manufacturer of specialty chemicals and plastics with annual sales of more than $3 billion. Its products are sold to industrial companies who use them to make a wide array of consumer goods, including house paints, car taillights, motor oil, paper, furniture fabrics and finishes, computers, laundry detergents and much more. The company has manufacturing facilities in 21 countries and employs more than 13,500 people.
