ROHM AND HAAS AND AMERIBROM ANNOUNCE JOINT VENTURE TO
MARKET PLASTICS ADDITIVES IN NORTH AND CENTRAL AMERICA
PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Rohm and Haas Company (NYSE: ROH) and Ameribrom, Inc. (a subsidiary of The Dead Sea Bromine Group of Israel) today announced the formation of a joint venture to market additives for thermoplastics, elastomers, thermosets and textiles.
The venture, called AmeriHaas, will market tougheners, blending additives and flame retardants used in the manufacture of automotive parts, construction products, packaging, home appliances and electrical/electronic equipment, including business machines and computers. The PVC additives business of Rohm and Haas is not included in the venture.
"Many manufacturers of engineering thermoplastics already use both toughening agents and flame retardants in their products," said Don Buehler, business manager for Engineering Resin Additives at Rohm and Haas. "Combining the product lines and servicing them from our Plastics Technology Center in Bristol, Pennsylvania will help customers in developing new formulations."
Jerry Garrison, Flame Retardant Product Manager at Ameribrom, notes that, "Although flame retardants have been known and used widely for years, several new technologies are coming into commercial reality. Specifically, our Actimer reactive FR's and F-2000 Series brominated epoxies are beginning to gain market acceptance in key applications. New tougheners for nylon and PET polyester are being commercialized within the Paraloid EXL-3000 and EXL-5000 Series."
When it begins operation Feb. 1, AmeriHaas will market Paraloid EXL additives made by Rohm and Haas Company, and the flame retardant products sold by Ameribrom, Inc., including the Actimer and F-2000 Series. Technical service for the combined product line will be supplied through the Rohm and Haas Plastics Technology Center, supported by The Dead Sea Bromine Group in Israel.
AmeriHaas will combine the flame retardant marketing force of Ameribrom with the engineering resin marketing force of Rohm and Haas to promote the joint product line. The parent companies will continue to fill orders for the respective product lines. The joint marketing venture will operate in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Central America.
