ROGERS CORPORATION REPORTS 1992 FIRST QUARTER RESULTS
ROGERS, Conn., April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Rogers Corporation (AMEX: ROG) reports a profit of $89,000, or 3 cents per share, compared to $810,000 or 26 cents per share, for the first three months of 1991. First quarter sales of $41.8 million were 13 percent lower than the near-record volume in the initial three months of 1991. At that time, Gulf War related sales of microwave materials and circuits, as well as flexible circuit sales to the computer industry were strong.
Harry Birkenruth, recently elected president and chief executive officer of Rogers Corporation, said, "Although the recession both here and in Europe continues to adversely affect results, there are some signs that the downturn may be ending. Among the bright spots in the first quarter have been sales of PORON(R) materials to the printing industry, ENDUR(R) components for use in office equipment, and phenolic molding materials for automotive metal replacement and electric motor commutator applications."
He stated, "R&D costs were lower this quarter than in the comparable 1991 period, partly because of the reduction in ROHSI(R) (Rogers High-Speed Interconnections) program spending, as several of the products move toward commercialization. In addition, the multi-chip module program has been concluded; we plan to use the technology developed to stimulate sales of our proprietary fluoropolymer materials."
Birkenruth concluded by saying, "There remains considerable near term uncertainty in the company's markets, but Rogers is positioned, because of lower overall costs, to achieve substantially improved earnings when sales again move higher."
Rogers Corporation, headquartered in Rogers, Conn., manufactures a broad range or engineered materials and components for the electronics and other selected industrial markets at plants in the U.S., Belgium and Mexico.
