ROGERS CORPORATION, AT ANNUAL MEETING, PROJECTS FIRST HALF EARNINGS TO BE HIGHEST IN RECENT YEARS

ROGERS, Conn., June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Rogers Corporation (AMEX:ROG) held its annual meeting today in Hartford, Conn. More than 90 percent of the shares outstanding were voted for each of the nominees for the Board of Directors.
Harry H. Birkenruth, Rogers president and CEO, presided at the meeting. He discussed some of the changes that have been made in the company during the past year to improve its profit position, including the pending sale of the Flexible Interconnections Division and the company's 50 percent interest in a related joint venture, Smartflex Systems. He stated that the sale of these businesses, announced earlier this year, is still expected to be completed around the end of June.
"We are feeling more and more confident of the direction we have set for our business," Birkenruth said. He summarized, "The actions we have taken to improve profitability are showing encouraging results. For the first quarter of 1993, we reported before-tax earnings of $1,663,000, the highest in five years. Sales are projected to be slightly lower in the second quarter of 1993, due to decreased sales of our power distribution products to the declining computer mainframe market, but we expect profits to be close to the 53 cents per share earned in the first quarter. The excellent start we have had in 1993 should bring our before-tax profits for the first six months to the highest half-year level that Rogers has attained in nearly a decade."
