 RODNEY G.D. SMITH JOINS SELIGMAN HENDERSON CO. AS MANAGING DIRECTOR
 NEW YORK, June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Rodney G.D. Smith has been appointed managing director of Seligman Henderson Co., a joint venture between J.&W. Seligman & Co., New York and Henderson International Ltd., London.
 Smith will have joint responsibility for overall direction of the venture with Iain Clark, chief investment officer, and will have the primary responsibility for formulating and implementing the joint venture's strategy and approach to the U.S. market. Smith will be a member of the Seligman Henderson management committee and the international strategy group.
 Seligman Henderson is an international asset management firm providing services to U.S. institutions, individuals and investment companies from offices in New York, London and Tokyo.
 Previously, Smith was a partner and senior member of the international investment committee of Brinson Partners, a U.S. manager of global equity and fixed income assets, where he had overall responsibility for the development of international business. Prior to joining Brinson in 1987, Smith was with Kidder, Peabody and Co., and before that was a barrister in London with experience in cases involving domestic and international securities.
 Henderson International Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Henderson Administration Group plc, one of the largest independent investment management companies in Europe. The group manages 40 separate investment companies, including Witan Investment Co. plc, one of the U.K.'s oldest and largest investment companies. Henderson Administration was formed in 1934 and currently manages assets of approximately US$14 billion for institutions, investment companies and private clients.
 J.&W. Seligman & Co., Incorporated, founded in 1864, is an investment manager and advisor with over $10 billion in assets under management. The firm serves investment companies, institutions and individuals. J.&W. Seligman manages the Seligman Mutual Funds, with over 30 portfolios, Tri-Continental Corporation, the nation's largest, diversified closed-end equity investment company, and two closed-end municipal bond funds. The closed-end funds are traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
