ROCKWELL WABCO RELEASES COMPACT AIR DRYER FOR NORTH AMERICAN APPLICATIONS

LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Rockwell WABCO Vehicle Control Systems has introduced the System Saver 1000, the most compact, lightweight desiccant-type air dryer available in the market today.
The product announcement was made at a press briefing for industry editors at the Mid-America Trucking Show.
Featuring a replaceable, spin-on desiccant cartridge, the System Saver 1000 measures less than 11 1/2 inches and weighs only 11.1 pounds -- thereby promoting quick, convenient installation in the limited space on today's aerodynamic heavy-duty vehicles.
"The System Saver 1000 air dryer represents a proven component specifically designed for North American applications. The unit effectively protects a heavy vehicle air brake system from moisture, contamination and corrosion," said Jay Sandler, director, air brakes and control systems for Rockwell WABCO.
Available as an option through many major North American truck OEMs or as a retrofit, the System Saver 1000 uses a spin-on desiccant-type cartridge for quick, easy maintenance. The unit provides maximum moisture removal to help prevent condensation in varying climatic conditions.
Sandler said the System Saver 1000 does not require a purge tank since a regeneration valve, working in conjunction with a pressure- controlled check valve, uses a small amount of air from the vehicle's reservoirs to purge moisture which has accumulated in the dryer.
"Unlike other air dryers, the System Saver 1000 taps into an already abundant supply of compressed air contained in the vehicle's air system tanks," Sandler said. He added that this unique and efficient regeneration process is compatible with federal air brake standard FMVSS 121 and all other applicable federal standards.
In addition to its compact design and unique regeneration process, the System Saver 1000 features:
-- An integral turbo-cutoff valve that prevents turbocharger boost pressure from leaking out of the air dryer when the air compressor is unloaded -- helping to maintain maximum available engine horsepower.
-- Sealed electrical connector to help protect against contamination and corrosion.
-- An integral mounting bracket that decreases the number of items which can vibrate loose.
-- Multiple filter system within the desiccant cartridge that helps ensure optimum filtration.
"Over 75 fleets and dealers have specified our air dryer on new trucks, primarily due to the unit's compact and lightweight size, and ease of maintenance," said Sandler.
Rockwell WABCO Vehicle Control Systems is a joint venture of Rockwell International Corporation's automotive business and American Standard Inc.'s WABCO Automotive Products Group. The venture was formed in early 1990 to supply vehicle control systems -- including truck, tractor, trailer and bus ABS and other air brake control systems components -- to North American truck operators.
