ROCKWELL TO EXPORT SUSPENSION SYSTEM PRODUCTS TO MERCEDES-BENZ IN EUROPE

DETROIT, March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Rockwell International Corporation (NYSE: ROK) has been awarded a contract to supply precision forged and machined front stabilizer bars to Mercedes-Benz, for application on its new compact Mercedes.
According to J. Douglas Lamb, president of Rockwell International Suspension Systems Company (RISSC), award of the new business follows two years of prototyping and testing work, during which Rockwell worked closely with Mercedes engineers in Stuttgart, Germany.
"This program is our first with Mercedes-Benz and also represents Rockwell's first export to Europe of a suspension system product," Lamb said. "We're very proud to have been awarded this new business from this highly respected European luxury car maker whose reputation for high quality is known throughout the world," Lamb added.
The stabilizer bars, which were designed by Mercedes engineers, feature unique reduced ends for lighter weight and precision clearance within the suspension package.
Development of the stabilizer bar prototypes involved engineers at RISSC's product engineering center, and metallurgists at the Rockwell Automotive Technical Center, both located in Troy, Mich.
The prototype and sample stabilizer bars were produced at the product development center of Rockwell's stabilizer and torsion bar plant in Chatham, Ontario, Canada. The plant is being tooled up for mid-summer production launch of the new product.
RISSC is one of the largest independent suppliers of stabilizer bars, torsion bars, and coil springs in North America.
Rockwell International Corporation, headquartered in Seal Beach, Calif., is a multi-industry company applying advanced technology to a wide range of products in its electronics, aerospace, automotive and graphics businesses.
