ROCKWELL SELECTS SPRINT GVPN SERVICE

 ROCKWELL SELECTS SPRINT GVPN SERVICE
WASHINGTON, April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Sprint (NYSE: FON) today

announced that Rockwell International Corporation (NYSE: ROK) of Seal Beach, Calif., has signed for its Global Virtual Private Network (GVPN) service.
Rockwell is Sprint's latest GVPN customer. Sprint recently announced that Grand Metropolitan Plc, the United Kingdom food and retailing conglomerate, and Digital Equipment Corporation also had signed for GVPN service. Sprint announced Esso, Exxon's U.K. subsidiary, last year.
Rockwell International, a multinational company with a wide range of products in the electronics, aerospace, automotive and graphics fields, will use GVPN to link locations in the U.S., the U.K. and Canada. Rockwell International uses Sprint's VPN service domestically.
GVPN allows multinational organizations to share private network features multilaterally among participating countries. GVPN provides customers needing multinational communications with many sophisticated features including seven-digit on-net calling with fast set-up, switched 56/64 Kbps data, international call forwarding, network ring-again, calling line identification and name display.
Introduced in 1990 in the United States by Sprint, in the United Kingdom by Mercury Communications Ltd., and in Hong Kong by Hong Kong Telecom International, the GVPN partnership is expanding to include Unitel and Teleglobe of Canada, PTT Netherlands and AOTC, Australia's telecommunications administration.
"GVPN offers global organizations like Rockwell custom network features without the hassle of private network development and maintenance," said Andrew Burroughs, vice president of global marketing for Sprint International, Sprint's global telecommunications and private networks subsidiary. "It extends the benefits of domestic VPNs internationally, and allows communications between several countries, rather than just point-to- point."
Sprint is a diversified international telecommunications company with $8.8 billion in annual revenues and the United States' only nationwide all-digital, fiber-optic network. Its divisions provide global long distance voice, data and video products and services, and local telephone services to more than 4 million subscriber lines in 17 states.
