ROCKWELL Q PLUS BRAKES NOW STANDARD ON ALL FREIGHTLINER TRACTORS
TROY, Mich., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Rockwell International Corporation's Automotive business has announced that Freightliner Corporation has become the first heavy-duty truck manufacturer to offer Rockwell's Q Plus series brakes as standard equipment on its Class 8 tractors.
Effective immediately, Rockwell Q Plus brakes are standard equipment on Freightliner's complete line of heavy-duty tractors, including the popular FLA, FLC-112, FLD-112 and FLD-120 models. The 16-1/2 inch Q Plus brake on drive axles offers up to 27 percent more wearable lining volume than standard 16-1/2 inch Q(R) brake.
Rockwell's front steer axle 15-inch Q Plus brake provides 93 percent more wearable lining volume than standard Q brakes for increased brake life.
As the leading North American original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of Class 8 heavy-duty vehicles, Freightliner said the introduction of Q Plus brakes as standard equipment supports their commitment of providing the most cost-effective and reliable products available in the industry today.
"Historically, Freightliner has been a leader in bringing new technology to the marketplace," said Harry Backeberg, senior vice president of Sales and Marketing at Freightliner Corp. "We are continuing to take steps in that direction by introducing products such as Rockwell's Q Plus brakes," he added.
Prakash Jain, director of Sales and Marketing for Rockwell's Brake business, said the Q Plus brake incorporates greater lining thickness with improved cam bushing and brake shoe hardware for increased brake life and durability.
"Until now, the Q series brake has realized tremendous support by our fleet customers," Jain said. "We've designed the Q Plus brake to expand on the numerous benefits found in the Q series brake," he added. The Q Plus series brake features the Q series' quick-change advantages and a greater standardization on cam brake hardware for all axles -- drive, trailer and steer applications.
The Q Plus camshaft has been specifically designed to provide the necessary shoe lift to use the added lining thickness without cam rollover. It also uses a heavy-duty shoe return spring and improved cam bushing material to ensure full lining wear.
"The technological advances included in the Q Plus brake demonstrate our commitment to provide end-users with components that help reduce operating costs and vehicle downtime," Jain said.
Rockwell's On-Highway Products supplies vehicle manufacturers around the world with the industry's most complete drivetrain -- Drivetrain Plus(TM). Rockwell components include axles -- steer, drive and trailer; brakes -- cam, wedge, air disc and automatic slack adjusters; clutches; transmissions; driveshafts and universal joints; on-board, electronic management systems; vehicle control systems; and aftermarket parts. The company also supplies heavy-duty truck plastic hood assemblies.
Rockwell International (NYSE: ROK) is a multi-industry company applying advanced technology to a wide range of products in its electronics, aerospace, automotive and graphics businesses.
