ROCKWELL PLEDGES $400,000 TO SAE's VISION 2000 PROGRAM
TROY, Mich., Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Demonstrating its continued

commitment to the nation's educational system, the Rockwell International Corporation Trust has pledged $400,000 over a four-year period to the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Vision 2000 program.
The pledge was recently announced by Rockwell Automotive's retiring president, Arthur P. Ronan, and the new president, Ronald L. Roudebush.
Vision 2000 was recently developed by the SAE to offer a variety of national programs to support education from kindergarten through college. Rockwell's contribution will be used to produce and distribute science and math materials for students in grades K-12 and to encourage careers in these disciplines.
Ronan, chosen in September to serve on the Advisory Committee of the SAE program, said Rockwell is pleased to participate.
"It is of great interest to me that young people of today have the opportunity to meet tomorrow's challenges," said Ronan, "and we are happy that Rockwell will be supporting this important initiative."
In addition to Ronan, Rockwell's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Donald R. Beall serves as a member of the Vision 2000 executive committee.
In August, Vision 2000 launched its initial educational program, "A World in Motion," a cooperative partnership between industry and participating school systems and geared to fourth-, fifth- and sixth- grade students. Detroit SAE officials said the program addresses a statistically proven decrease in student interest in science and math that occurs between the third and seventh grades by introducing those students to creative hands-on projects and study materials.
The SAE encourages its member engineers to become involved in "A World in Motion" by providing and acquainting teachers with program materials, visiting classrooms to discuss the importance of math and science studies and recognizing student achievement.
Rockwell Automotive's business, with headquarters in Troy, manufactures a complete lineup of drivetrain components for on- and off- highway commercial vehicles and a broad range of component systems for passenger cars and light trucks.
Rockwell International (NYSE: ROK) is a $12 billion, multi-industry company applying advanced technology to a wide range of products in its electronics, aerospace, automotive and graphics businesses.
