ROCKWELL OPENS TECHNICAL CENTER IN NAGOYA

NAGOYA, Japan, May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Rockwell International Corporation's (NYSE: ROK) automotive business today opened a new technical center in Nagoya, Japan.
Robert A. Calder, executive vice president of Body & Chassis Systems (BCS), a division of Rockwell, said the new BCS Technical Center will carry out research and development activities for advanced engineering of its future systems technology. It also will be engaged in application engineering for its existing roof, door, access control and seat adjusting systems products in support of its Japanese customers.
The center is interconnected with Rockwell's worldwide network of four BCS engineering centers -- in Frankfurt, Germany, for roof systems; Sully-sur-Loire, France, for door systems; Birmingham, England, for access control systems; and Bracebridge, Ontario, Canada, for seat adjusting systems. The Nagoya center will also interact with Rockwell's Automotive Technical Center in Troy, Mich., where the company's automotive headquarters is based, to aid in the transfer of computer- aided design (CAD) data among the centers.
Rockwell BCS manufacturing locations in North America, Europe and Asia/Pacific regions are also linked to Nagoya.
Pierre Periou, director of Advanced Engineering, Rockwell Body & Chassis Systems, has been appointed head of the BCS Technical Center. He will be based in Nagoya along with an initial team of five Japanese engineers.
Rockwell has equipped the Nagoya center with two three-dimensional CAD stations and test equipment. It is anticipated that the number of Japanese engineers will be increased to eight by the end of this year. Additional staffing will depend on the need of Japanese car manufacturers.
Rockwell BCS is a leading global supplier of a wide range of automotive components and systems with manufacturing plants in North America, South America, Europe, Japan and Australia.
In addition, Rockwell's graphics, telecommunications, industrial automation, and avionics businesses have a strong customer base in Japan.
