ROCKWELL AUTOMOTIVE EXTENDS FAMILY OF TRANSFER CASES

LAS VEGAS, March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Rockwell International Corporation's Off-Highway Products business has announced the introduction of a new member to its popular family of single-speed, three-shaft transfer cases.
Effective immediately, Rockwell is offering the new T-2120 three- shaft transfer case, which features a customized case and modular design to meet most original equipment manufacturer (OEM) very heavy-duty, high-torque requirements.
Rockwell's transfer case development was announced here at CONEXPO '93.
Bob Dunn, Rockwell's product manager for Transfer Cases, said the new T-2120 configuration features an input torque rating of 20,000-ft. lbs. (27120 Nm) and an input/output drop of 20 inches (508 Nm) -- larger than any other Rockwell transfer case model available today.
"The larger input/output drop allows yokes as large as our 18 series or 92N," Dunn said, adding the T-2120 model is ideal for high-torque, heavy-load applications, including emergency/rescue vehicles, mining equipment, concrete mixers, utility trucks and oil field service.
Dunn noted the T-2120 also features a lightweight modular design, coupled with numerous options, to maximize OEM flexibility to match specific installation and application requirements.
For example, Dunn said unique features have been incorporated into the design of the T-2120 model to give the OEM/end-user the ability to select either a built-in overdrive reduction or 1.00:1 speed ratio to meet their specific needs. "The T-2120 model feature permits customers to either increase vehicle speed or add tractive effort by offering unmatched ratio versatility from 0.83 to 1.21:1," he added.
Other features of the T-2120 include factory installed oil pumps to assure lubrication at all speeds, and Rockwell's proven helical main drive gearing with tapered roller bearings for quieter operation.
Dunn said the T-2120 provides similar flexibility, as with the single-speed transfer case family, by offering either front or rear outputs and optional integral air-engaged axle declutches/Power Take-Off (P.T.O.). He added that other near-term options will include a neutral feature permitting P.T.O. operation with full-time all-wheel drive accomplished by a 30/70 proportional differential with air-actuated lock-out and dual indicator switch options.
He added that the T-2120 transfer case includes a variety of flanges and full-round/easy-service yokes that are compatible with Rockwell's family of T-2120A-RS transfer cases. The T-2120 three-shaft unit shares common components/features that were previously released for the T-2120A-RS two-shaft configuration.
Rockwell's Off-Highway Products supplies vehicle manufacturers around the world with high-quality, cost-effective drivetrain component systems including a variety of planetary drive axles; transfer cases; wet and dry disc, wedge, cam, hydraulic and mechanical drum brakes; friction materials and supporting aftermarket parts.
