 ROCKWELL AUTOMOTIVE ACQUIRES REMAINING INTEREST
IN EUROPEAN JOINT VENTURE, RUBERY OWEN-ROCKWELL
WREXHAM, Wales, May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Rockwell International Corporation (NYSE: ROK) announced today that its Automotive business has acquired Rubery Owen Holdings Ltd.'s 50-percent interest in Rubery Owen- Rockwell (ROR). ROR was a United Kingdom-based joint venture, formed in 1967, owned equally by Rockwell and Rubery Owen Holdings Ltd.
Terms of the acquisition were not announced.
"This is an important development for Rockwell and its customers around the world. We'll now be able to respond to customers with even broader resources and technological bases to meet their trailer products needs," said Ronald L. Roudebush, president of Rockwell Automotive, based in Troy, Mich.
"This acquisition aligns our successful trailer axle business in North America with an innovative European supplier of axles and suspensions. Our full ownership of ROR, together with our worldwide resources, will enable us to strengthen local market product and service support," Roudebush added.
Rockwell Automotive is a global manufacturer of automotive and truck components and component systems including trailer axles and related brake componentry.
"This demonstrates clearly our commitment to the European market and to trailer markets around the globe," Roudebush emphasized.
ROR, located in Wrexham and with operations in France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Ireland and Holland, is a leading manufacturer and supplier of commercial vehicle trailer axles, and mechanical and air trailer suspension systems. The company recently introduced a new air suspension system and new lighter weight 9 and 11 tonne trailer axles.
Roger H. Storey will continue as ROR's group managing director, reporting to Prakash Mulchandani, who assumes responsibility for Rockwell's worldwide Trailer Axle activities. Mulchandani, general manager of Rockwell Automotive's Trailer Products business, based in Kenton, Ohio, will direct operational activities to ensure both a smooth transition period and optimum utilization of all Rockwell global resources for the benefit of ROR customers.
 A. David Owen, chairman of Rubery Owen Holdings Ltd., will assist in the transition in a consultant capacity. Mr. Owen commented that the ROR joint venture had developed into a successful and growing business over the last 25 years, but recognized that Rockwell now wished to develop ROR as an important part of its global strategy.
