ROCKWELL AND WINCHESTER, KY., FACILITY'S UNION REPRESENTATIVES
 REVIEW POSSIBLE CLOSURE
WINCHESTER, Ky., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Rockwell International Corporation's Automotive business management and representatives of the United Auto Workers and the UAW's Local No. 1537 have agreed to explore the possible closure of the company's Winchester facility.
If an agreement can be reached with the union in concert with the current labor contract, the possible closure would occur in September of this year.
"In view of the extremely competitive truck market around the world, and because we are unable to obtain new business for our Winchester operation," said Stephen M. Humphrey, president of On-Highway Products, "we believe it is imperative for us to evaluate the possible closure of the Winchester plant."
The Winchester facility, built in August 1966, employs about 135 persons in the manufacture and supply of axle differential cases and carriers, which are supplied to other Rockwell axle facilities in Asheville, N.C.; Florence, Ky.; Kenton, Ohio; and Newark, Ohio.
Rockwell Automotive, with headquarters in Troy, Mich., manufactures a complete lineup of drivetrain components for on- and off-highway vehicles and a full range of component systems for passenger cars and light trucks.
