ROCKWELL'S MORRISTOWN, TENN., PLANT TO EXPAND OPERATIONS IN 1993
MORRISTOWN, Tenn., July 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Rockwell International Corporation's Automotive business has announced plans to expand the manufacturing operations of its Morristown facility in 1993 by adding a new forging and heat treating production line.
The 18,000-square-foot building expansion will be added to the existing 104,000-square-foot facility. Construction will begin in August of this year, with first production scheduled for September 1993.
In addition to forging and manufacturing rear drive axle gearing and other components for heavy-duty trucks, the new production line will produce front axle steering knuckles.
According to Joseph J. Sniezek, Morristown's plant manager, the new operations reflect a progressive work ethic that encourages employees to take an active role in making decisions that lead to increased efficiency and productivity, while maintaining the plant's high standards of quality.
"Our talented people make the difference by consistently manufacturing quality products," Sniezek said, adding that products from this new line will be shipped for machining and ultimately assembled onto front steering axles at Rockwell's Newark, Ohio, and Asheville, N.C., plants for various customers.
The Morristown plant completed a 40,000-square-foot expansion in 1987 and has become a fully integrated supplier for all of Rockwell's precision forged differential pinions and side gears. Equipped with the latest advances in forging technology, the plant provides completely finished differential gears with automated machining and heat treating.
The plant opened in 1978 and currently supplies axle components to Rockwell facilities in Newark, Ohio; Asheville, N.C.; Cameri, Italy; and Dirona, Mexico, for final axle carrier assembly.
The Morristown plant is part of the On-Highway Products business of Rockwell International's Automotive business, which produces an evolving lineup of drivetrain components and component systems -- including axles, brakes, clutches, drivelines, transmissions, anti-lock braking systems and a complete lineup of aftermarket components for commercial medium- and heavy-duty vehicle manufacturers around the world.
Rockwell International (NYSE: ROK) is a multi-industry company applying advanced technology to a wide range of products in its aerospace, electronics, automotive and graphics businesses.
