ROCKS IN GIANTS KILLING; UPDATE.

GLASGOW ROCKS secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the BBL Cup last night after bagging an 88-85 victory over Manchester Giants.

Sterling Davies' side had to battle back from 11 points down in the third quarter at the Emirates Arena to set up a showdown with Sheffield.

Glasgow forward Kieron Achara, who had 18 points and nine rebounds, said: "We're up and down but we're still a work in progress. It's great that we've got a win in our new building."

CRICKET: Scotland were denied the first win of their South African tour last night when North West Dragons edged a two-wicket victory.

Safy Sharif (49) and Majid Haq (41) helped fire the Scots to a 224-9 total in the 50-over clash and Ali Evans took four wickets in the defeat.

HOCKEY: Grange bowed out of the EuroLeague after an 8-0 defeat to German champions Berliner in their second pool match.

CURLING: Lorna Vevers beat Russian Olga Zharkova to reach the semis of the Swiss Masters yesterday.

The Lockerbie star won 5-4 and will now play Sweden's Margaretha Sigfridsson for a spot in the final.

TENNIS: Linlithgow's Colin Fleming and Wimbledon's Ross Hutchins missed out on their first 1000 Series final after a 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 10-8 defeat against Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna in Shanghai. SQUASH: Scot John White and his partner John Russell lost 3-2 against Matt Jenson and Preston Quick at the Maryland Open.

Fellow Scot Greg McArthur and Bermuda's James Stout also bowed out to second seeds Manek Mathur and Yvain Badan.

VOLLEYBALL: Scotland and GB team-mates Mark McGivern and Chris Lamont helped ASUL Lyon go joint top of the French Pro "B" League with a marathon 27-25 26-28 25-23 20-25 15-13 win away to Calais. GYMNASTICS: Olympic bronze medallist Dan Purvis came fifth in the all-around event at the Mexican Open. RUGBY LEAGUE: Scotland paid the price for a sloppy first-half as they slumped to a 30-18 loss against Ireland in the European Cup.

ATHLETICS: Scot Susan Partridge marked a return to top form with victory in the Cardiff half marathon.
