ROCKEFELLER FINANCIAL SERVICES ELECTS DAVID ROCKEFELLER JR. CHAIRMAN
/ADVANCE/ NEW YORK, Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- David Rockefeller, Jr. has been elected chairman of Rockefeller Financial Services, Inc. by the board of directors, it was announced today.
During the 1980s he served the company as director of human resources and later as vice chairman. He succeeds his father, David Rockefeller, who has been chairman of the company since 1981.
Rockefeller Financial Services, Inc. (RFS) is responsible for commercial, financial and philanthropic activities of the Rockefeller family. The company's activities include investments, philanthropy, trusts and insurance as well as accounting, tax, legal and administrative services. RFS is the parent company of Rockefeller & Co., an investment management organization; Venrock, Inc., one of the country's oldest venture capital partnerships; Rockefeller Trust Co.; Rockefeller Insurance Company, and Acadia Risk Management.
The election of David Rockefeller Jr., great grandson of John D. The family has had its headquarters in New York since the founder moved here from Cleveland more than 100 years ago. "As the most recent member of my generation to lead our family office," David Rockefeller Sr. said, "I feel very comfortable with the orderly process which identified my successor and am happy to transfer leadership of our company to the fourth generation at this time. Fortunately there are many members of the fourth and fifth generations of the family in the wings who are qualified to assume that leadership in the future."
According to David Rockefeller Jr., "To support the on-going evolution of the office, RFS has recruited as its president and chief executive officer, John M. Harris, former managing partner of the European practice of the global management consulting firm Booz, Allen & Hamilton; has raised equity capital, and has elected four outside directors. The CEO and board have been developing a long-term strategic plan that will guide RFS in its support of both Rockefeller family interests and outside endeavors."
David Rockefeller Jr., 50, is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School and did graduate work in economics at Cambridge University. He is a nationally known philanthropist and is currently chairman of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a trustee of The Brookings Institution, the Museum of Modern Art and the National Center on Education and the Economy.
