ROCHESTER TEL CONTINUES STRATEGIC EXPANSION OF ITS LONG DISTANCE OPERATIONS WITH PURCHASE OF MID ATLANTIC TELECOM

 ROCHESTER, N.Y., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Rochester Tel (NYSE: RTC) announced today that it has completed the acquisition of Mid Atlantic Telecom, a Washington, D.C.-based long distance provider.
 "Rochester Tel's purchase of Mid Atlantic Telecom is a major step in the execution of our strategic plan to expand our long distance operations into new markets," said Dale Gregory, president of Rochester Tel's Network Systems and Services business unit.
 Mid Atlantic will become part of Rochester Tel's long distance operations group, which is marketed under the name RCI Long Distance.
 Founded in 1983, Mid Atlantic Telecom has more than tripled its annual revenue during the last five years, and currently has annualized revenues of more than $21 million. Mid Atlantic serves customers in Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and New York City.
 "Mid Atlantic represents an excellent strategic acquisition for RCI Long Distance, as both companies have a focus on the small to medium- size business market," said Steve Dubnik, newly named President of Mid Atlantic Telecom and RCI's President-Mid Atlantic Region.
 Rochester Tel has operations that serve one million customers through 50 telecommunications companies in 22 states. The company's principal lines of business include long distance, network systems, wireless and telephone operations. Rochester Tel is headquartered in Rochester, N.Y., and was incorporated in 1921.
