 FOR NEW VENTURE CAPITAL FUND
 SAN FRANCISCO, April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Robertson, Stephens & Co. today announced the formation of RS & Co. IV, L.P., a venture capital fund capitalized at $92 million. The fund will invest in privately held companies in the biotechnology, environmental services, health care and software sectors.
 The fund's general partners include M. Kathleen Behrens (biotechnology), David L. Goldsmith (medical services and devices), John M. Grillos (software and information services), Charles A. Hamilton (environmental services), W. Dexter Paine (management buyouts), Paul H. Stephens (investment strategist and education) and G. Randy Hecht (administration).
 RS & Co. IV, L.P. is an expansion of the Robertson, Stephens & Co. venture capital program, which began in 1980. The Robertson Stephens Venture Capital Group currently has more than $350 million under management in three venture capital funds (RCS III, RCS Ltd. and RCS II), a late-stage fund (BNP/RCS Atlantic Fund) and a health care management buyout fund (RCS Health Care Partners). Robertson, Stephens & Co. is also a co-general partner of The Environmental Venture Fund.
 Over the past two years, 17 Robertson, Stephens & Co. portfolio companies have gone public including Advanced Interventional Systems, American Waste Services, Athena Neurosciences, Broderbund Software, COR Therapeutics, CompUSA, Curaflex Health Services, Homedco Inc., Integrated Health Services, Matrix Service Co., Protein Design Labs, State of the Art, SyQuest Technology, TETRA Technologies, Tokos Medical, VeriFone and Vitesse Semiconductor. In addition, five companies are in registration for their initial public offerings.
