 ROBERTS ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF MCI
 WASHINGTON, June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Bert C. Roberts Jr., today


was named chairman of the board of MCI Communications Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC) in addition to his current responsibilities as chief executive officer. Roberts was elected to the company's senior post at a meeting of the board of directors today. He succeeds William G. McGowan, who died June 8, 1992.
 Daniel F. Akerson, chief operating officer of MCI, was named to the additional post of president, formerly held by Roberts. The board also named Akerson and Richard T. Liebhaber, chief strategy and technology officer, to serve on the company's board of directors.
 Roberts, 49, was named chief executive officer of the company in December 1991. He had served as president and chief operating officer since 1985, and held a number of senior management positions since joining the company in 1972.
 A native of Kansas City, Mo., Roberts is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
 Prior to being named MCI's chief operating officer in April 1992, Akerson, 43, held a number of senior management positions with the company, including executive vice president and group executive, and chief financial officer. He has been with MCI since 1983.
 Liebhaber, 56, previously served as executive vice president and group executive before he was named chief strategy and technology officer in April 1992. He joined MCI in 1985, after holding various executive positions with IBM Corporation.
 Headquartered in Washington, MCI provides a full range of domestic and global telecommunications services through one of the world's largest all-digital networks. The company, with 1991 revenue of $9.5 billion, is the second largest long distance provider in the United States and has more than 60 overseas offices in 55 countries.
