 SPOKANE, Wash., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert S. Jepson Jr. has been appointed by board consent to the board of directors of The Washington Water Power Company (WWP) (NYSE: WWP), it was announced today by Paul A. Redmond, WWP's chairman of the board and chief executive officer. The appointment will be effective Nov. 1.
 Jepson will stand for election to the board by a vote of company shareholders at WWP's annual meeting in May 1994.
 Jepson also serves on the board of Pentzer Corporation, WWP's wholly owned private investment firm. Jepson has served on Pentzer's board since late 1991.
 The Savannah, Ga., resident brings a broad range of corporate and a national business expertise to WWP's board. Jepson is currently chairman, president and chief executive officer of the Kuhlman Corporation of Savannah. He is also chairman of the board of Coburn Optical Industries, Inc. of Tulsa, Okla.; chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the Savannah-based investment company Jepson Associates, Inc.; and chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Jepson Vineyards Ltd., a premium winery in California.
 In 1983, he formed the Jepson Corporation, which rapidly grew to become a "Fortune 500" company and was traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Previously, Jepson held leadership positions in financial institutions, including securities companies and banks in California and Illinois.

 Over the past decade, Jepson has been involved in a number of activities in the Pacific Northwest. He is a past director of Hecla Mining Company of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; a past member of the board of trustees of Spokane's Gonzaga University; and past campaign co-chair for the Gonzaga School of Business Building Fund -- The Jepson Center. Jepson was presented with a doctor of laws degree by Gonzaga in 1986.
 Jepson and his wife, Alice, have long been involved in higher education and support their involvement through the Jepson Foundation. Besides his involvement in the Foundation, which has supported endowment and development activities at a number of colleges and universities, Jepson also serves on the board of trustees of the University of Richmond, his alma mater.
 The Jepsons are the parents of two grown sons. Jepson is a yachtsman, a certified diver and a licensed pilot.
