RESTON, Va., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert E. Patricelli, chairman and chief executive officer, Value Health, Inc., has been elected to the HealthSpring, Inc., board of directors, announced Kennett L. Simmons, chairman.
HealthSpring, Inc., originally incorporated as American
Health Care Groups, Inc., is a national managed care organization that develops and manages physician group practices in selected local markets.
"Bob Patricelli brings an impressive portfolio of leadership experience to our board," said Simmons. "His strategic counsel will certainly strengthen the company's competitive edge." Patricelli, 54, in 1987 founded Value Health, Inc., a leading provider of specialty managed care benefit program and health care information services. Previously, Patricelli was president of CIGNA's Affiliated Businesses Group, where he managed several health care businesses, including CIGNA Healthplan, Inc. Patricelli is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, and is a member of the board of directors of the United States Chamber of Commerce and is chairman of its Health and Employee Benefits Committee. Incumbent directors of the six member board include Simmons, chairman of the board, HealthSpring, Inc., and former chairman and chief executive officer, United Healthcare Corporation; James G. Carlson, president and chief executive officer, HealthSpring, Inc.; William C. Ballard, former chief financial officer, Humana; Rodman W. Moorhead, E.M. Warburg, Pincus and Co., Inc.; and Patrick T. Hackett, E.M. Warburg, Pincus and Co., Inc. HealthSpring is a national managed care organization that develops and manages physician group practices in selected local markets. The company recruits primary care physicians in pediatrics, internal medicine, family practice, and obstetrics and gynecology and establishes referral relationships with sub-specialists and other health care providers in the communities in which it operates. The company's health centers serve health plans and their members principally through prepaid contracts.
