ROBERT C. RORDAM APPOINTED TO NEW POSITION GENERAL MANAGER - RUSSIAN OPERATIONS

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert C. Rordam has been appointed to the new position of General Manager - Russian Operations, effective Feb. 1, 1994, Texaco Inc. (NYSE: TX) Senior Vice President Peter I. Bijur announced today. Rordam currently is serving as Executive Vice President and Managing Director of P. T. Caltex Indonesia (CPI), a Texaco and Chevron affiliate involved in exploration and production activities in Indonesia.
In this new position, Rordam will be responsible for the coordination and development of Texaco's Russian projects. Currently these include:
-- Sutormin Project -- an initial two-year workover project in Western Siberia, in which Texaco, as a service contractor, is repairing idle wells in the Sutormin oilfield. Since June 1993, Texaco has restored more than 40 wells with production exceeding 11,000 barrels of oil per day.
-- Timan Pechora Project -- a large, high potential, appraisal and development program in the Timan Pechora region of arctic Russia, some 1,100 miles northeast of Moscow. The Russian government estimates that this area may contain more than five billion barrels of oil reserves.
-- Sakhalin Island Project -- Texaco, jointly with Mobil, has been awarded the rights to negotiate a production sharing agreement covering the 2,700 square mile Kirinskiy Area, offshore Sakhalin Island, located approximately 700 miles northeast of Vladivostok.
-- "Russia has significant hydrocarbon potential," said Bijur. "Texaco's involvement in Russia has reached a point where this position is warranted. Bob Rordam's managerial skills and extensive international exploration and producing experience, especially in the area of joint operations, greatly enhance Texaco's team in Russia."
Rordam was graduated from Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge in 1961 with a bachelor of science degree in both petroleum and chemical engineering. After joining Texaco's petroleum engineering operations in New Iberia, La., that same year, he proceeded to serve in various engineering assignments of increasing responsibility throughout Louisiana, prior to being named District Engineer at Houma in 1970.
After his appointment as Coordinator of Joint Operations for Texaco's Eastern Hemisphere producing activities based in New York in 1972, Rordam was named Supervisor of Middle East Operations in 1976, and Manager of Joint Operations in 1979. He was appointed General Manager of Texaco's Middle East/Far East Division in 1982. In 1988 Rordam was appointed as Senior Vice President - Sumatra of P. T. Caltex Indonesia and in 1990 was appointed Executive Vice President and Managing Director of CPI.
Rordam will be relocating to Texaco's executive offices in Harrison, N.Y., from Indonesia.
