ROBBINS & MYERS REPORTS IMPROVED EARNINGS
BEFORE TAX FOR THE SECOND QUARTER
DAYTON, Ohio, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Robbins & Myers, Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS: ROBN) today reported that results for the second quarter ended Feb. 29, 1992 reflected a 5 percent increase in income before tax over the same period in 1991.
Income before tax was $2.6 million compared to $2.5 million for the second quarter of 1991. Net income from continuing operations was virtually flat to last year at $2 million. This disparity is the result of the change in the effective tax rate from 11 percent last year to an anticipated 25 percent for 1992. Sales for the quarter were down slightly at $18.5 million versus $19 million for the 1991 second quarter.
Fiscal year first half sales rose 2 percent to $37.9 million compared with $37 million over the same period in fiscal 1991. First half income before tax increased 11 percent to $5.3 million versus $4.8 million for the same period in 1991. Net income from continuing operations remains the same at $4 million for both periods.
The Fluids Handling Group reported that orders for municipal waste water treatment and replacement parts were good despite the recession. Orders for oilfield products remain down from last year's strong activity.
"We are pleased with our improvement in before tax income which is an important measure of how our business is operating as we exhaust our tax loss carry forward over the next twelve months," said Daniel W. Duval, president and chief executive officer. "Our primary concerns are the length of this recession and the fundamentals which drive domestic oil and gas exploult, backlogs are down from previous quarters. We anticipate a good pick-up in the second half if the economy improves. However the third quarter will not be at last year's level which was one of our strongest quarters on record."
