ROADWAY SERVICES ANNOUNCES SECOND-DAY AIR SERVICE BY RPS
AKRON, Ohio, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Roadway Services, Inc. (NASDAQ: ROAD) announced today that Roadway Package System, Inc. (RPS) will begin providing second day air service on a limited basis, beginning Jan. 6.
The new service, RPSAir, will initially be offered only to RPS shippers served by its hub facilities in Dallas and Chicago. RPS will use several major airlines to transport the packages, enabling customers to send priority shipments within two business days.
Following the successful initiation of the service on a test basis, the company plans to extend RPSAir to all of its customers within the continental United States.
"The initiation of second-day air service will provide our customers with a new option for their time-sensitive shipments," said Daniel J. Sullivan, president of Roadway Services' national carrier group, which includes RPS and

Roadway Express, Inc., one of the nation's largest motor carriers.
The company has no plans to purchase its own fleet of airplanes, according to Sullivan.
Now in its seventh year of operation, RPS handles packages of up to 100 pounds for business-to-business customers in the United States and Canada.
Roadway Services also owns Viking Freight, Inc., the parent of Viking Freight System, Inc. and Spartan Express, Inc., regional carriers serving the Western region and Central and Southern regions, respectively; Roberts Express, Inc., a critical shipment carrier; and Roadway Logistics Systems, Inc., which provides contract logistics services.
