 ROADWAY PACKAGE SYSTEM, LTD. OPENS FOR OPERATIONS
 TORONTO, Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Roadway Package System, Ltd. (RPS,


Ltd.), the wholly owned Canadian subsidiary of Roadway Package System, Inc. (RPS) begins full-scale pick-up and delivery operations today.
 "We are committed to meeting our customers' requests for broader geographic coverage," said John P. Chandler, president, RPS. "The value-added services that have helped establish RPS's reputation in the United States as a leader in technology and customer service are now available to the Canadian small package market via RPS, Ltd."
 Chandler continued, "With the full implementation of the U.S.-Canada Free Trade Agreement, we envision that international shipping will expand as trade barriers are reduced. RPS will have a significant presence in Canada, offering a full range of services to meet the needs of Canadian and U.S. small package shippers."
 Based in Mississauga, Ont., RPS, Ltd. operates three consolidation and distribution hubs in Vancouver, B.C.; Toronto, Ont.; and Montreal, Que. The company also operates satellite terminals in Calgary and Edmonton, Alta.; Winnipeg, Man.; Moncton, N.B.; Kitchener, Oshawa, Ottawa, and Windsor, Ont.; and Quebec City, Que.
 RPS previously offered U.S. shippers service to Canada via an interline carrier. RPS will continue service to all postal codes in the 10 Canadian provinces via RPS, Ltd.
 Chandler said that RPS, Ltd, will offer U.S. customers a customs clearance system that allows declaration paperwork to be processed electronically prior to the package reaching the border. With all the required paperwork completed and processed in advance, he said, Canadian packages will move promptly to their destinations.
 RPS, Ltd. offers many of the services currently provided by RPS in the United States, including en route tracing, written proof of delivery (P.O.D.), next day consignee, delivery information, collect on delivery (C.O.D.), itemized invoices, COLLECT invoicing for retail customers, electronic call tags, and RPS ACCESS(SM) (RPS's electronic data interchange program). Additionally, volume-driven pricing programs are available to all RPS, Ltd. customers.
 Now in its eighth year of operation, RPS handles packages for business-to-business customers. RPS is an operating company of Roadway Services, Inc. (NASDAQ: RoadSv), Akron, Ohio.
