ROADWAY EXPRESS ANNOUNCES SALES FORCE REALIGNMENT

AKRON, Ohio, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Roadway Express, Inc. today announced a new, realigned sales structure designed to deliver better and more efficient service to the company's customers. This reorganization will optimize the use of full-time, dedicated sales representatives and telemarketing to provide more consistent and professional sales representation for all Roadway customers.
Effective immediately, sales responsibilities will be assigned only to full-time, professional sales representatives. These sales representatives will cover territories that cross terminal boundaries. Newly created Regional Sales Managers' positions will provide expanded field sales direction and development. Additionally, Roadway's telemarketing capabilities are being expanded.
Roadway terminal managers will no longer be required to handle sales duties. The removal of day-to-day sales management and account development responsibilities from terminal managers will allow them to concentrate their efforts on building better operational services and efficiencies for Roadway customers.
Douglas G. Duncan, vice president - sales for Roadway Express, Inc., stated, "These changes represent a substantial realignment of our sales process. Telemarketing, professional sales representation and focused sales management are the primary elements of this change. Our sales force realignment will optimize our sales resources to provide professional, consistent and better focused sales representation for every Roadway customer.
"These changes will improve our responsiveness to customers while enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of our sales force," Duncan added.
Michael W. Wickham, president of Roadway Express, stated, "Growing customer requirements demand more complex sales and marketing strategies. To be successful, we must better understand our customers' businesses and offer them value-added services that ensure them success with their own customers.
"With these changes, Roadway's sales force will focus on customer acquisition and value improvement, while our terminals will focus on delivering the best possible service to our customers," Wickham concluded.
Based in Akron, Ohio, Roadway Express is one of the nation's largest motor carriers serving all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Europe, Scandinavia, Great Britain, Guam, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Central America, South America, the Eastern Caribbean and the Middle East.
