ROADRAILER COMES TO INDIA

LAFAYETTE, Ind., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The RoadRailer(R) Division of Wabash National Corporation (NYSE: WNC) has concluded a license agreement in India, RoadRailer President Lawrence J. Gross announced today. Kirloskar Pneumatic Co. Ltd., a leading private industrial manufacturer based in Pune, India, purchased the license to manufacture, market and use the RoadRailer technology in India.
"The license agreement was actually signed last year but Government of India approval was necessary before work could begin," reports Billy Hedrick, vice president/international marketing for RoadRailer. "RoadRailer engineers will work closely with Kirloskar and the Indian Railways to adapt the proven RoadRailer technology to the broad gauge in India. The first RoadRailer trailers in India will be versatile flatbed trailers with 'pop-up' twist locks providing the capability of transporting one 40 ft. or two 20 ft. ISO containers. The Indian operation will also make use of the innovative RoadRailer SST (Steel Spring Tandem) Ramp System which simplifies the equipment by eliminating the need for air suspensions on the RoadRailer trailers."
Indian Railways has initiated a policy under which private companies are invited to own and operate the RoadRailer equipment. This Indian operation will be the first widespread use of RoadRailer technology to move containers of export goods from inland manufacturing regions to the major ports. "This is particularly significant for lesser developed countries. The RoadRailer system saves the investment required for the elaborate and expensive terminal facilities associated with conventional COFC (container on fleet car) movements," explains Hedrick. "We expect the RoadRailer operations in India to be the model for similar RoadRailer container operations throughout Asia, Eastern Europe and the newly independent countries of the former Soviet Union."
The RoadRailer Division of Wabash National Corporation is the world's leading designer and manufacturer of bimodal vehicles. Wabash National Corporation designs, manufactures and markets standard and customized truck trailers. The company believes that it is one of the largest U.S. manufacturers of truck trailers, as well as the leading manufacturer of fiberglass reinforced plastic trailers and aluminum plate trailers.
