ROADMASTER POSTS RECORD RESULTS; THIRD QUARTER AND NINE MONTH
SALES & EARNINGS HIGHEST IN COMPANY'S HISTORY
ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Roadmaster Industries Inc. ("RMI") (NASDAQ: WHEL) announced that unaudited net sales for the nine months ended Sept. 30, 1992, were a record $144.2 million compared to $119.2 million for the like period last year, an increase of 21 percent; operating income was $8.8 million versus $5.3 million in 1991, an increase of 67 percent; and pre-tax profit was $4.3 million compared to $38 thousand in 1991, an increase of approximately 11,316 percent. Net income was $3.3 million which represents earnings of 12 cents per share for the nine month period compared to a net loss of $253 thousand and a loss of 1 cent per share for the like period last year.
For the quarter ended Sept. 30, 1992, unaudited net sales were a record $52.7 million compared to $50.5 million for the third quarter last year; operating income was $4.3 million versus $3.9 million in 1991; and pre-tax profit was $2.8 million compared to $2.2 million in 1991. Net income was $2.3 million which represents 8 cents per share for the third quarter 1992 compared to net income of $2.1 million representing 8 cents per share in 1991. The company stated third quarter financial comparisons may not be appropriate since a significant portion of last years' new products were shipped in late July compared with the shipment of this years' new product, the Motocykes, which began in late September 1992.
The company said bicycle and fitness product sales remained strong through the third quarter exceeding last years results for the like period by approximately 40.0 percent. The Roadmaster Corp. unit introduced its Motocykes product line late in September 1992 with media coverage in several national magazines and television advertising on the Nickelodeon channel. The reception so far has exceeded the company's expectations and several major retailers have accelerated orders due to the extremely fast sell through of the Motocykes.
"We are pleased to again achieve record results," said Henry Fong, RMI president and chief executive officer, "this is now RMI's fifth consecutive record quarter proving the accentuation of 'Best Value' in our products with consistent service and quality to our valued customers is working."
Roadmaster Industries operates through its two wholly-owned subsidiaries, Roadmaster Corp. and Hamilton Lamp Corp. Roadmaster Corp. is a leading designer and manufacturer of Roadmaster junior wheel goods, Roadmaster bicycles and Vitamaster fitness equipment. Hamilton Lamp Corp. is a leading manufacturer of lamps and replacement shades.
