ROAD DEATHS CAUGHT ON CCTV CAMERA; Men were thrown in the air as they were hit by car.

Byline: Duncan Gibbons

SHOCKING footage has been shown in court of the moment two Warwickshire businessmen were killed by a hit-andrun driver in America. The horrific deaths of Kenneth Watkinson, aged 48, of Harbury, near Leamington, and Craig Elford, aged 39, of Ratley, south Warwickshire, were captured by a hotel security camera in South Florida.

The grainy video shows the men being thrown into the air as they were hit by one of two speeding cars in Seabreeze Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, on February 13 last year.

The footage was presented in court as evidence against 35-year-old millionaire playboy Ryan LeVin, an heir to a jewellery empire, whose white $120,000 Porsche is alleged to have been involved.

He was arrested and charged last month.

Witness Abdias Laloi said: "They were going pretty fast. I didn't even see what kind of car it was.

"I only saw two white cars. They were doing a 100 because they went pretty fast."

Stuart Grossman, a lawyer representing Mr Elford's widow Claire and their children Charlotte and Olivia, told the judge: "It's a shocking, horrific accident caused by someone with no conscience," But David Bogenschutz, LeVin's attorney, said: "There is no way of telling who's driving the vehicle.

"There's no way of even telling what type of vehicle it is, except that it's a white small car, but can they prove that it was Ryan driving that car and not someone else? "If they can't, no matter how horrific this accident was, Ryan LeVin is not guilty."

Mr Watkinson, who had a son Max with wife Kirsty, and two teenage children, Jonathan and Stephanie, from a previous relationship, was mown down as he and his colleague walked back to their beachfront hotel.

The pair were in the United States to recruit people for a healthcare company.

They were both listed as directors of Stratfordbased Ingala Healthcare Ltd and the Warwickbased Concept Medical Ltd.

Both were said to be well-known names in the pharmaceutical industry.

LeVin, of Illinois, faces charges of two counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident causing death and is being held without bond until his trial.

Each of the vehicular homicide charges could carry up to 15 years in jail.
