Union members from a railway infrastructure company in Crewe are striking today in a dispute over pay and conditions.
The staff members from Unipart Rail have set up their picket line outside the company's Gresty Road facility.
RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said: "RMT Unipart rail members are standing firm this morning in rock solid action over pay and conditions. "The company should wake up and take note of the anger on the shop floor over the attacks on pay and working conditions and should get back round the table and negotiate a deal that delivers workplace justice."
A spokesman for Unipart Rail said: "A small number of staff at Unipart Rail's Crewe Service Centre, who are unhappy with the 2018 pay settlement, have elected to take part in strike action led by the RMT Union today (13/06/2018).
"This one-day strike action is despite 65% of staff voting to accept the pay deal, which has already been paid to them.
"The RMT is not satisfied with the company's offer of 2.75% on all base rates, plus a [pounds sterling]500 ex-gratia payment to all staff, which was backdated to January 2018 and paid to staff in April.
"The company met with RMT on Friday 8 June and further requests were tabled, but the union pressed for strike action.
"Unipart Rail would like to make it clear that it does not believe there is a dispute. Full discussions have been held with our collective bargaining units - including representatives from Unite the Union, the RMT and our Clerical Grades - since December 2017.
"Of the 70 staff at the Service Centre, 21 have voted for strike action but we cannot predict how many will do so. The remaining Service Centre operatives will continue to work and we do not expect the strike to disrupt business.
"The company is putting in mitigation plans to avoid any disruption to customer deliveries. The company will continue to speak with employees and local representatives to encourage further dialogue around future pay and terms and conditions."
