RIVAL WELCOMES BBC MOVE.
A spokeswoman said: "If anything, this is good news for ITV as it undermines the ITC's argument that we should re-schedule the Nightly News."
ITV will go to the High Court next month to try to stop the watchdog making them show its late-night news before 11pm.
If they lose this would have to happen by the end of the year - which could upset BBC plans. Greg Dyke last night denied moving BBC's news was "dumbing down". The director general told media bosses in Edinburgh: "The main reason for the move is more people will watch it, it's as simple as that." He said extended regional bulletins would follow the BBC News at 10.
