RIVA APPOINTED PRESIDENT AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER OF J. MAKOWSKI
 BOSTON, Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- J. Makowski Company, a Boston-based energy firm, announced today the appointment of Carlos A. Riva as president and chief operating officer of J. Makowski Company, Inc. (JMC) and its wholly owned operating company, J. Makowski Associates, Inc. (JMAI).
 Jacek Makowski, founder and president of both companies, will maintain the positions of chairman and chief executive officer of JMC and JMAI. James A. Rooney, executive vice president, will now assume the position of vice chairman. These corporate changes will take effect immediately.
 Riva joined the firm in 1985 as the project manager of Ocean State Power in Rhode Island. He was also manager of the Electric Projects Group which developed the companies' congeneration and independent power projects: Ocean State Power, Selkirk Cogen, MASSPOWER, West Lynn Cogeneration and TBG Cogen. Prior to assuming his current position, he held the titles of senior vice president and chief operating officer responsible for the Electric Projects Group and Fuel Services Group. His responsibilities include the overall development, construction and operation of all of JMAI's cogeneration and independent power projects (IPP). Additionally, he oversees the administration of all JMAI's fuel supply and transportation projects.
 J. Makowski Company is a developer of cogeneration and independent power projects and also manages the purchase and transporation of Canadian natural gas supplies on its own behalf and on behalf of several Northeast gas utilities.
