RISK-FREE, HANDS-ON STOCK MARKET SIMULATION BEGINS NEW SESSION IN JULY
DEDHAM, Mass., June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Amateurs and professionals will have a hands-on, risk-free opportunity to experience the excitement of playing in the stock market in the July session the National Investment Challenge. The amateur division of the quarterly competition allows novices to gain knowledge about the stock market in a real-time trading environment, while the professional division enables experts to test new strategies and train personnel. Each participant manages a fictional $500,000 portfolio over a three-month period, which can be traded in either stocks or options.
Wall Street Portfolios established the National Investment Challenge in 1989 to provide individuals and professionals with an exciting and challenging way to learn about the stock market. Over 40,000 traders of all levels have participated in the challenge since 1989.
"There is no better way to learn about the market and experience the highs and lows than actually jumping in and trying it," said Beau Coash, Wall Street Portfolios vice president. "In the National Investment Challenge, participants can do just that, and in fact, do everything real traders do, without risking anything. And, as an added benefit, each session we award $100,000 in cash and prizes to the top performers."
Coash noted that it is particularly timely to learn about the stock market now: "Given the current economic climate and low interest rates, more people are in interested in the stock market and want to learn how to invest."
Wall Street Portfolios services corporate clients as well as the general public. Corporate clients have included such firms as Banker's Trust, Coopers & Lybrand, Merrill Lynch and Fidelity Investments. Shearson Lehman and Paine Webber are currently using the investment simulation as an equity training vehicle for new brokers and trainees. Wall Street Portfolios can adapt the challenge to the specific needs of a particular company.
The National Investment Challenge features a real-time trading environment, portfolio and stock ownership data, monthly statements of transactions and competition rankings, and monthly newsletters. The national Investment Challenge also provides an informational briefing packet designed to help novices understand terminology and place orders.
Participants may execute up to 100 trades of buying, selling and shorting stocks and options at their current bid and ask price by calling live brokers. The challenge is open to everyone over 18 years of age. The trading desk is open during regular stock market hours: 9:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The third quarter session begins July 1 and ends Sept. 30, 1992. Late registration is accepted until July 31. The cost is $99 to participate. For more information, interested individuals or firms can call 1-800-545-8808, ext. 83.
The National Investment Challenge was developed by Wall Street Portfolios, a division of Replica Corp., based in Dedham, Mass. The AT&T Collegiate Investment Challenge is another investment simulation in the Wall Street Portfolios division. Replica also has a Sports Division, which conducts four major sports challenges.
