RIO IN ROAR; Ferdy's delight at opener.

Byline: By Steve BATES

RIO FERDINAND punches the air in delight after putting England on the road to victory at Wembley.

And stand-in skipper Ferdy reckons the 52nd-minute header goes down as "one of the most important" of his career.

He added: "We've ended up winning 5-1 so we have to be pleased."

The Three Lions recovered from a shaky start to run out comfortable winners against the plucky Group 6 minnows - rated a whopping 106 places below England in the FIFA rankings.

Alexandr Kuchma's own goal made it 2-0 before Zhambyl Kukeyev hit back. But Wayne Rooney's double and a late Jermain Defoe strike kept us on course for South Africa in 2010.
