RINGING IN NEW YEAR CHANNEL BY CHANNEL.

Byline: - Valerie Kuklenski

In homes across America, it isn't the new year until the television says so. Here's how to ring in 2005 on the tube (streamers, noisemakers and goofy hats optional):

``The Chronicles of Riddick'' (On Demand) starring Vin Diesel makes its pay-per-view premiere, with or without its predecessor, ``Pitch Black.''

``Countdown With the Stooges'' (noon, AMC) is a 12-hour marathon of Three Stooges shorts, followed by two features: ``Have Rocket Will Travel'' at midnight and ``The Three Stooges Meet Hercules'' at 3 a.m.

``100 Memorable TV Moments'' (7 p.m., TV Land), a five-hour countdown.

``Seventh Annual Viewer's Choice'' (7 p.m., Disney Channel) is a five- hour block reflecting the programming tastes of kid and tween couch potatoes.

``101 Crimes of Fashion'' (8 p.m., E!) spotlights wardrobe faux pas of those who should know better.

``New Year's Rockin' Eve'' (10 p.m., ABC, Channel 7) has Regis Philbin, the best pinch-hitter in the business, sitting in for the ailing Dick Clark high above Times Square. Music acts include Big & Rich, Earth, Wind & Fire, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan and - is she live or is she Memorex? - Ashlee Simpson. Get well soon, Dick!

``NBC's New Year's Eve With Carson Daly'' (10 p.m., NBC Channel 4) begins what is expected to be an annual event. Guests include Avril Lavigne, Duran Duran, Brian Williams (yes, the anchor) and, live from his Florida party, Donald Trump.

``MTV's Iced Out New Year's Eve 2005'' (10:30 p.m., MTV) encroaches on Clark's Times Square turf and even cribs from his guest roster. Lindsay Lohan and assorted MTV VJs welcome Simple Plan and Good Charlotte as well as Green Day, Snoop Dogg, Ja Rule and Jimmy Eat World.

``New Year's Eve: Live From Times Square with Ryan Seacrest'' (11 p.m., Fox Channel 11) counts down America's Top 40 and unveils Usher's new ``mini-movie.''

``The Tonight Show With Jay Leno'' airs live back East anyway (but airs 11:35 p.m., NBC Channel 4 here) to observe the New Year in real time. Guests include Motley Crue, which promises a ``special announcement'' during the show, and Blue Man Group.

``Late Night With Conan O'Brien'' (12:35 a.m., NBC, Channel 4) counts down to midnight in the Central time zone to make folks in Milwaukee and Topeka feel special.
