RIDDELL SPORTS OFFERS OHIO CELLULAR PRODUCTS SUBSIDIARY FOR SALE

NEW YORK, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Riddell Sports Inc. (NASDAQ: RIDL) announced today, during its annual shareholders meeting, that it was seeking to sell its Ohio Cellular Products (OCP) subsidiary.
OCP was purchased by Riddell Sports as part of the acquisition of BSN's protective equipment division in September 1991. OCP is a molder of cross-linked polyethelene foams using a patented Celluform process.
David Mauer, chief executive officer, said, "The percentage of OCP's production that is used for our internal needs in the manufacture of Riddell protective athletic equipment is declining. As OCP pursues new areas of business development, it is no longer a good strategic fit with our core businesses.
"Riddell Sports is reviewing an offer from management for OCP in addition to offering the company for sale to other parties," Mauer added.
For 1992, OCP had sales of $3,600,000 and a pretax loss of $700,000.
Riddell Sports Inc. is the world's leading manufacturer and reconditioner of football helmets. The company sells football helmets, shoulder pads and other sports protective equipment under the Riddell brand, and provides reconditioning services under the All American name. The company also licenses the Riddell and MacGregor trademarks for use on athletic footwear, apparel and other sports equipment.
