 NEW YORK, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The Board of Directors of ITT Corporation (NYSE: ITT) has elected Richard S. Ward senior vice president and general counsel, Rand V. Araskog, chairman, president and chief executive of ITT announced today. Ward succeeds Howard J. Aibel, ITT executive vice president who has been appointed chief legal officer of ITT.
 Aibel had been general counsel of the corporation since 1968. In his new position, Aibel will continue to report to Rand V. Araskog, chairman, president and chief executive of ITT.
 Ward was a vice president of ITT and director of ITT's Washington D.C. office. In his new capacity, Ward will continue to report to Aibel.
 Ward joined ITT in 1969 as general counsel of ITT Space Communications, Inc. After moving to ITT Europe headquarters in Brussels in 1978, Ward was appointed general counsel of ITT Europe Inc. in 1983 and elected a vice president of ITT Europe Inc. in the same year. He was named a vice president and associate general counsel of ITT in 1984 and director of the ITT Washington office in 1987.
 Before joining ITT, he had served in the legal department of Union Carbide Corporation and, prior to that, was associated with the New York law firm of Pennie & Edmonds.
 Ward is an engineering graduate of Yale University and has a law degree from the University of Virginia. He is a member of the bars of New York and Virginia. He is also admitted to practice before the Court of International Trade and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
 Ward will relocate to ITT Headquarters in New York City.
 Nicholas J. Glakas has been elected a vice president of ITT Corporation and replaces Ward as the director of ITT's Washington D.C. office. Glakas will report to Aibel.
 Glakas joined ITT in 1988 as director, government affairs in ITT's Washington, D.C., office. Before joining ITT, he had served as general counsel, U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations. Prior to that he was assistant director, Division of Enforcement, Commodity Futures Trading Commission. He was also an associate, Abourezk, Shack & Mendenhall, and Martin, Whitefield & Smith. Also, he was law clerk to U.S. Circuit Judge Roger Robb, U.S. Court of Appeals and to U.S. District Judge Luther W. Youngdahl, U.S. District Court.
 Glakas has a master of law degree from Queens College, Cambridge, England, as well as a law degree from Georgetown University and an undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary.
